Equipment Maintenance:  Ensuring you receive “Extraordinary Coffee,” always!

During the off-season, we pamper our wet and dry milling equipment, leaving them like new. The process involves disassembling, repairing, cleaning, and painting each piece of equipment to get them ready for the next season. In the photos below you can see the heavy amount of staining and buildup that occurs on the equipment. This is a result of the acidic mucilage which is strong enough to eat through the paint and cement.

The process usually takes 4-6 weeks, but the hard work and dedication to our equipment shows in the cup. Here are some of the before and after photos.

Natural Disasters:

Unfortunately, nature reminded us of its strength and unpredictability. In the latter half of June, heavy rains hit our region, leaving a trail of destruction. Fallen trees and downed power lines blocked the only access road to our adjacent village as well as damaging coffee trees.

We are proud of how quickly the team mobilized and got to work restoring electricity, clearing trees, and re-opening the road to El Caltatato. Unfortunately, we lost some coffee trees and it will take us 4 years after replanting to have their harvest again…but we will do it, have no doubt! The community around us is grateful for the support they received from us to regain normalcy quickly.

Bird Friendly:

Did you know we been Bird Friendly certified since 2019? Finca Terrerito was born with “Sustainability” as a key pillar and a unique connection emerged between birds and coffee on our farm. What exactly does it mean that Finca Terrerito is Bird Friendly? It means that every year we are inspected to make sure our farm is living harmoniously with the land, and that we are not putting productivity and profits over caring for mother nature. The inspection looks at our coffee lots to ensure no deforestation is taking place and that we are not replacing native plants, with ones better suited for a coffee farm. For us, Sustainability is not just a pillar, but a rooted value that guides every action we take. Our diversity of birds offers a unique morning spectacle: they greet us with melodious songs and play tirelessly, reminding us of the importance of preserving their natural habitats. Caring for these winged creatures is not just a privilege, but a responsibility we assume with diligence and dedication. We commit to maintaining the natural habitats of birds intact, thus enhancing biodiversity and contributing to the prevention of deforestation. In a crucial moment where environmental awareness guides consumption decisions, shade-grown and bird-friendly coffee production takes on a deeper and more essential meaning than ever. We're not only changing the course of coffee production but also tracing a new path towards a sustainable and harmonious future where nature and coffee coexist in perfect communion. Taking care of our birds is safeguarding a legacy of beauty and balance on our farm! Take a look at some of the birds captured from the window of our cupping lab and rainwater reservoir.

World of Coffee (WOC):

Every year, the World of Coffee Comes to Europe. This year it was in Copenhagen, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to have two members of the farm team attend with us – Marcial, our farm director, and Lourdes, our Q-Grader! This experience was a significant investment, but it aligns perfectly with our core pillar of “Improving Lives.” We created lifelong memories and shared many moments with our team back home through video. It's an honor to show our team from rural Honduras that there's a bigger world beyond their mountains/village, and coffee is the connection that makes it all possible. We're grateful to our customers, who make this possible through their purchases. Your support enables us to improve lives and inspire our team to strive for more. This experience has inspired us all, and we look forward to continuing this journey together!

We want to give a special thank you to our friends at Loring Coffee Roasters and the IHCAFE for letting us brew at their booths. We are currently planning to send coffee to Europe, so if you know of any European based roasters interested in working directly with the farmer, let them know about us!
